Mary Merrill grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota. She began working with ceramics in 2009, studying with Bob Jewett until 2014. She attended St. Olaf college in Northfield, Minnesota where she earned her bachelors in Spanish. While at St. Olaf she studied with Kate Fisher and Paul Briggs while she continued to develop her own artistic style. In 2018 Mary moved to Seattle Washington.

 The inspiration for Mary's work draws on the landscape of Madeline Island where Mary spent summers growing up and has some studio space. The smoothed rocks, gentle waves, and distant horizon continue to influence her work today. Mary aims to create simple, beautiful pieces which will make everyday life just a little better.
